welcome to 534 air cadets
What if you were told that there was a dynamic, structured youth program that offered Canadian youth a variety of interesting and challenging activities? What if you were told that this same program developed in youth an increased level of self-confidence, self-esteem and self-awareness? Cadets are motivated to improve their physical fitness, to work harder at their academic studies and to give back to their communities through volunteerism. The Cadet Program also has a direct impact on Canadian society as a whole. There is definite value in having well-rounded, community-minded, experienced young people who are ready to assume their places as tomorrow’s leaders and decision-makers.
About us
What is the Cadet Program? The Cadet Program is the largest federally-sponsored youth program in Canada that includes the Royal Canadian Sea, Army and Air Cadets. It is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the sea, army and air activities of the Canadian Forces. We meet every week to parade, practice drill, and learn everything from how to fly to how to survive in the woods. On weekends we take part in various activities in the area -- parades, camping trips, gliding days, and much more.
OPPORTUNITIES
Do you have an interest in flying or want to earn your pilot's license for free? Are you interested in wilderness camping or want to know how to survive on your own in the woods? Do you want to become a great leader (maybe even the next Prime Minister)? Do you enjoy being a part of a team and doing things together? Do you have an interested in the military and want to learn more about it? Do you enjoy playing an instrument in a marching band? Are you interested in precision target shooting? Do you have an interest in space, astronauts, and aerospace? ... Or maybe just spend a summer running around, playing sports, and having fun... If you answered YES to any of the above, cadets has something for you!
Several courses and training are available to learn more about the field of aerospace and its technologies. Individuals participating in aerospace courses learn more about the cosmos and planets. They also design model rockets and can participate in activities that simulate living conditions in space.
Members of the Air Cadet Program will be given opportunities to fly in an airplane or glider during their time with the cadets. Cadets can apply to pilot training. These summer courses allow you to become a glider or power aircraft pilot.
The Air Cadet Program covers the learning of forest survival skills. Each unit conducts an annual (air crew survival) adventure exercise where cadets have the opportunity to practice different techniques such as preparing a fire, building a shelter or making themselves visible to the rescue team.
Several technical courses are available to learn more about the various aviation-related trades. It is possible to learn more about air traffic controlling, and how to operate an airport. For those more interested in the mechanical aspect, several courses deal with the operation of the instruments and mechanics of an aircraft.
