Activities at 534 Raider

So what exactly do we do at cadets? Well, a little bit of everything! On Monday nights we have classes that cover everything from Leadership to Aviation to Survival. We'll also teach you how to march around -- and if you're really good, you can join our Drill Team to compete against other squadrons across Ontario. Every month, we also have a sports night for physical training (and all around fun!).

On Monday nights you'll also see the squadron's Band and Flag Party. The Band is made up of cadets of all levels who enjoy playing music and competes in a yearly competition against other squadrons in our region. The Flag Party proudly bears the flags (and occasionally drill rifles) on parade.

Monday nights are just the tip of the iceberg in cadets though. We have activities that take place every few weekends, such as:
Bush Outings (Military-style camping trips)
Gliding Days (Flights with Air Cadet Pilots)
Range Team (A shooting team using Air Rifles -- to go for the bullseye, not other cadets!)
Drill Team (Our Marching team that competes with other squadrons)
Competition Band (Our Musicians who compete in the yearly Band and Drill competition)

Summer Activities

Every year 534 Raider Squadron goes on a year-end trip. This trip usually takes place at the end of August and is open to all cadets who've participated actively in the squadron. Previous trips have included spending time touring a military base in Virginia, a weekend in Ottawa, and shorter trips such as rafting, going to the waterpark, or a day at African Lion Safari.

On top of all that, cadets also offers free summer camps! Yes, you can go play music, survive on your own in the bush, get your glider or pilot's license, become an athletics instructor, practice your leadership technique, or even go on a trip to a different country (or continent!) while making friendships that will last throughout your life. The camps are by far one of the best parts of the program and are available to all cadets in the squadron. Once you turn 16, you can also work as a staff cadet during the summer, making anywhere from $60 to $90 a day supervising or teaching the younger cadets.
